Activity-Specific Waivers
Before you send folks outside, they must understand the risks present that cannot be eliminated without altering the activity beyond what will bring the value they seek in engaging with it. Well-drafted waivers include:
Thorough descriptions of the risks present with the activity
A waiver of their right to hold your organization liable for injury,
And a consent for medical treatment in the case of injury.
Risk Management Plans
Programs that operate within industry standard practices can confidently eliminate the risks that can be, without fundamentally altering the activity beyond what will bring the value patrons seek. Risk Management Plans should include the following information, based on the activity, the group (size and age-range) and duration of event (half-day, single-day, camping trip…etc)
Standardized company equipment lists
Standardized participant clothing and equipment lists
Industry standard operating procedures
Detailed leader training and credential requirements
Incident Response Plans
The worst time to figure out how to manage an incident is while it is unfolding. Having a thorough incident response plan will decrease the risk involved with your programs by:
1) Increasing your staff’s awareness of, and preparation for, possible incidents.
2) Decrease the time it takes to get any injured parties the definitive care they need.
